Volkswagen's all-electric Golf is built on the seventh generation Golf platform and has a range of only 270 km according to official data. There are two models available for purchase. Taking the top-tier Chi Pro model as an example, the list price is 168,800 yuan, and the price after subsidies is the same. Additional costs include a registration fee of 500 yuan, vehicle and vessel tax of 300 yuan, compulsory traffic insurance of 950 yuan, and commercial insurance of about 5,000 yuan. With a discount of around 23,000 yuan (which varies by location), the final all-inclusive purchase price is about 152,000 yuan.
[Exterior]
The vehicle has dimensions of 4259/1799/1479 mm and a wheelbase of 2631 mm. The exterior has slight modifications compared to the fuel version. The grille adopts a honeycomb pattern, and a blue line runs across the front connecting the headlights, signifying its identity as a new energy vehicle. It is equipped with 16-inch low-resistance wheels, which have a somewhat ordinary design. The rear of the car is consistent with the fuel version and does not feature the blue line.
[Interior]
The interior maintains the standard Volkswagen family design. As an electric vehicle, its interior lacks the technological feel found in other models. This is a common issue with adaptations from fuel versions. The central 8-inch display supports phone connectivity and voice control but does not support Internet of Vehicles or OTA updates.
[Configuration]
Taking the Chi Pro as an example, the configuration includes active braking, rearview camera, cruise control, automatic parking, keyless entry and start, front seat heating, automatic headlights, full LED headlamps, and automatic wipers. The configuration is quite nice, with the high-end model offering significantly more features compared to the basic one. However, as a top model, it should include adaptive cruise control.
[Seating/Space]
The overall seat comfort is average, neither too hard nor too soft. For reference, the author is 190 cm tall and finds that the rear seat offers just enough legroom, with about two fingers of headroom remaining. The space is sufficient for daily use. The rear seats come with air conditioning vents and two USB ports. The trunk has a capacity of 380 liters, which is not large but adequate for the Golf's positioning.
[Power]
The vehicle is equipped with a front single motor with a maximum power of 100 kW and maximum torque of 290 Nm, paired with a 40 kWh ternary lithium battery. The acceleration feels faster than the 1.4 T high-power engine, particularly because the electric motor's response is quick with no delay. The official range is 270 km, and in spring, the tested range is about 250 km, which means there's not a significant discrepancy, which is favorable.
[Driving]
The suspension tuning is on the stiff side, making traveling over speed bumps and rough roads less comfortable. However, with no engine, the noise insulation is much improved, with only slight tire and wind noise.
[Summary]
The all-new fuel version Golf has already been upgraded, and it is expected that this all-electric model will also be updated soon. The over 200 km range is suitable for urban travel, though compared to long-range electric cars, more frequent charging is necessary. The advantage lies in Volkswagen's solid vehicle structure and brand influence. Given the availability of a home charging station, it is a worthwhile purchase for city commuting.
